In the meantime, beat the heat and stay cool with these two great upcoming events. *Upcoming Events* 1) *Music Show for a Sweatfree PDX* Listen to "edgy folk" and reggae flamenco with Valerie Orth AKA former sweatfree campaign organizer in San Francisco and current chair of the Sweatfree Advisory Group. In between sets, participate in a fun action piece with Sweatfree PDX to urge our City stop purchasing goods made in sweatshops. You will not want to miss this show! Tell your co-workers, friends and family to join us. TUESDAY, JULY 17 at The Know 2026 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97211 8-10pm - Live music all the way from California with Valerie Orth (edgy folk - www.myspace.com/vlomusic) and LoCura! (reggae flamenco - www.myspace.com/locuramusica) 2) *Portland Assembly on Free Trade and Job Loss* Thursday, July 19, 6:30 pm Portland Community College - Cascade Campus 705 N. Killingsworth St, Student Center Cafeteria Free trade agreements like NAFTA have cost thousands of people in the Portland metro area their jobs. If things continue on their current course, many additional area residents will see their jobs shipped abroad. There is a growing recognition in Congress that free trade agreements have hurt our communities, and many elected officials are now taking a stand against the free trade agenda. Still, many Members of Congress in the Pacific Northwest remain undecided on this important issue. Join other Portland-area residents to discuss the negative impacts that free trade agreements have had on our communities in terms of plant closures, job loss, school funding and more -- and learn about what people in our region can do to prevent these harmful trade policies from expanding. This event will include testimony from displaced workers from a range of industries whose jobs have been shipped abroad. If you would like to share your story at this community forum, please contact the Oregon Fair Trade Campaign at (503) 736-9777 or orftc at citizenstrade.org . Free event. Open to all.
