We have consistently had trouble mobilizing members of PCASC and the IWW to run Liberty Hall. Liberty Hall has immense potential as a community space. PCASC and the IWW do not currently have the capacity to realize that potential. Many things just aren't happening the way they should be. The website doesn't work and Trillium is working as indentured servant to get the hall rented out. I propose that we recruit someone to be responsible for forming this collective. That person will then form a volunteer core for LH of at least 6 people. PCASC and IWW volunteers are already busy with PCASC and the IWW. We need to look outside of our organizations. The collective will have at least one representative from the IWW and PCASC. As leaseholders, the IWW and PCASC will have final say over the building, but the LH Collective--or whatever you want to call it--would have the leeway to creatively build a vibrant community center. They would also be responsible for raising a certain amount of revenue per month through rentals. This is doable. I am confidant that there are at least 6 people in Portland who would be thrilled to run a community center. What do people think?
