Message-ID: <354169.8189.qm@web63607.mail.re1.yahoo.com> on a windows machine, at least my windows machines, it's quite easy: - fire up SoundForge (or your audio editor of choice). - File --> New, select: WAV, stereo, 44.1 kHz, 16-bit (you could choose 48 kHz, but given the source - internet audio - i don't think it would make much difference).? after hitting "OK", SF has a cool?"audition" feature that shows you?level of incoming audio and let you make various adjustments without starting to record right away.? one has to press the a button (red if i remember correctly) to start & stop actual recording. - set your input and level: in your task bar, double-click the speaker icon to bring up audio properties.? make sure that "Wave" is NOT checked, i.e. it should not be mute.? then go to Options --> Properties, switch the radio button to "Record", then make sure all the new boxes below are checked, and hit OK.? this will switch the audio properties to your Recording properties.? at this point you'll have to exprienment with choosing different input sources (it's usually called "Stereo mix") and make sure it makes the levels jump up and down in SF (or whatever audio editor you're using).? set the level so you get as close as possible to 0 without actually hitting 0. obviously practive the above before the shpongle show with some other stream (internet radio, video on BBC world, etc). the above will generate huge WAV files, which will need to be compressed afterwards to MP3.? apparently there is freeware out there that will record and compress in one step - dunno how good these are, but might simplify thing and/or offer an alternative if the above doesn't work for you. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12519_7-10031813-49.html http://www.mp3mymp3.com/mp3_my_mp3_recorder.html http://www.download.com/Streaming-Audio/3150-2168_4-0.html if you go with any of the above, be sure to chose one that allows you to record at a decently high bitrate MP3 (Freecorder, a popular app, limits you to 128 - aka crap - in which case it's better to record to WAV and compress later using higher settings in another app). hope this was helpful :) ________________________________ From: Simon Dahl To: Psytrance producers' forum Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 4:36:09 AM Subject: Re: [Dream] shpongle stream on friday - please record?
