i've never tried doing it in audio tracks but it doesn't sound like a
terrible idea. i can see the advantages but i'm not convinced any of those
functions are something i'd need to use on a regular basis with percussion.
i can think of several disadvantages though: you can't pitch up/down by
using midi notes. you don't have amp/filter envelopes to work with and no
easy way to work something that's velocity-like into the workflow. not
having velocity opens an entire other dimension of issues when programming
beats.
but i suppose, having not actually worked like that, there are plenty of
positive aspects to it that i'm missing.
