[Dream] Monitors (Again?!@$%#)

hi adam
i can't speak to the DynAudios, but i have to say i love my mackies, which i've had since 2003.
i'm surprised to hear that they moved production to china, it seemed like the whole "made in usa"
thing was a big point of pride. well, i suppose converse all-stars (chuck taylors) are made in
china now, too.
but seriously, you have to consider that mackie is not going to move production to china simply to
cut down on labour costs - if they did only that, then they would be sourcing a large part of
their components from...the united states. which doesn't make a lot of sense. (of course, i
suppose that they may have sourced a lot of their supply chain gradually - these things don't
happen overnight).
like all-stars, which now tend to fall apart a little faster than they used to, i would expect the
mackies to exhibit slightly poorer quality - the same thing happened when sony moved its
production from japan to china. i used to be a hardcore sony loyalist, but no longer.
apologies for the seemingly sinophobic post, but this is simply the reality of globalization. on
the other hand, i am sure that the people who are willing to sell you a $600 volume knob can
guarantee that it was made in the united states...or can they?
