I have no idea what most psy-trance tracks use for drums these days,
but they've done a good job getting them to all sound the same ;)

There are plenty of drums samples available for free on the internet.
You can also make your own samples by editing other people's
recordings (also available for free on the internet), or by making
drum sounds with your synths and sampling them. There are a number
of free VST plugins that can make drum sounds. You don't need to buy
anything.

On 3/26/07, Joshua Tinnin put forth:
>So, I'm to understand that most drum parts these days are made from
>samples. Are people recording their own samples, or is there a good
>source (paid or free)? I'm not sure when I'll have the money to buy a
>full kit just to make some samples, though I do have a snare ...

>I know someone (Doofus?) said they liked Reason for controlling drums.
>Any other opinions? All I have is Cubase SX 3 so far, but am buying
>something this weekend ... not sure, maybe Reason, maybe Sound Forge,
>maybe some VST soft synths ...

>Also, are people using sampled kicks, or if not, is Sound Forge still a
>vital tool in creating one? The kicks I hear sure don't sound sampled
