P.S. There isn't much silicon or germanium in Russia, that's why the
tube designs got to be so advanced. We just never had transistors
that were powerful or stable enough. We were using tube based TV
sets until the very late 80's. Took the fuckers 5 minutes to heat
up. The tubes in radars of the MiG-25 produced so much heat, that
they (the radars) were alcohol-cooled. Needless to say, the presence
of 250 liters of pure ethanol on board of each fighter could not
possibly alleviate any potential alcoholism issues in the Air Force.
