[Dream] Quad core or "just" Dual core?

I assume you meant 2048 MB, and not that you have over two terabytes of
ram?  In which case, you're either compiling the human genome solely to beat
the previous record, or are seriously compensating for something.  :)

I don't know what your computer needs are, but personally, I'm hoping that
my current setup will last me long enough for a generation or two of
computers (that's, what, five months right?  :)).  It doesn't really make a
lot of economical sense to buy the latest new upgrade the moment it comes
out, unless you're particularly, really desperate for it and willing to pay
the difference.  I figure that if you can wait until you're past the
"starting to push it" phase and into the "If I were to open a wordpad file
my computer would pee on me" phase, you'll find that the multiple-core chips
were twice as much and now cost about as much as a couple of matinee movie
tickets plus popcorn - instead of "pay the rent or buy a new chip?" it's
"see snakes on a plane ii or buy a new chip?"
